How the calculator works

Artillery in WARDOGS is aimed with two numbers: an azimuth (the compass bearing from your gun to the target, in degrees) and an elevation in mils — the barrel angle on the gun's sight. Higher mils mean a steeper arc and a shorter shot. The calculator measures the exact gun-to-target distance on the map and interpolates the elevation from in-game firing tables, so the first shell lands where the marker sits instead of walking rounds onto the target.

  1. Pick the map you are on — Bakurani or Ozeti — in the calculator above.
  2. Tap or click the map to place your gun where the mortar or SPH-2 actually sits. Drag to pan and pinch or scroll to zoom; the map only places a point on a still tap.
  3. Tap again to place the target. Drag either marker to fine-tune; another tap moves the target for fast follow-up missions. The Gun and Target buttons let you re-place either point.
  4. Pick your weapon — and for the SPH-2, the low or high arc.
  5. Read azimuth, elevation in mils and distance from the panel and dial them into the gun. Once a solution exists the calculator also shows flight time and the height difference to the target.
  6. Switch to 3D to see the shell's arc over the actual relief — the same terrain heightmap the height correction uses, extruded under the map. A red segment means a ridge is in the way of that arc.

Need the markers, drawings or squad sharing too? The same tool lives in the full interactive maps: Bakurani or Ozeti.

L81 Mortar & SPH-2 range envelopes

WeaponArcMin rangeMax rangeElevation span
L81 Mortarsingle132 m684 m150–850 mil
SPH-2low~1,181 m2,629 m20–600 mil
SPH-2high~735 m2,629 m610–1,400 mil

Inside these envelopes the calculator interpolates the exact mil value; outside them it tells you the target is TOO CLOSE or OUT OF RANGE so you know to displace instead of wasting shells. The L81 Mortar is a buildable emplacement; the SPH-2 is a vehicle — where the ranges overlap, the high arc drops shells more steeply over cover while the low arc arrives faster.

Squad fire missions

Open the full map, start a shared session (🔗 in the toolbar) and your gun/target pair plus the live solution appear for everyone in the session, in your squad color. A spotter drags the target marker onto what they can see; the gunner just reads the mils. Flip the tool to Private and your markers vanish for the squad instantly.

FAQ

How do I use the WARDOGS mortar calculator?

Use the calculator at the top of this page: pick Bakurani or Ozeti, tap the map to place your gun, tap again for the target, and read azimuth / mils / distance from the panel. Drag markers to adjust and dial the numbers into the gun.

What is the L81 Mortar's range?

132 m to 684 m on a single high arc, with elevations from 150 to 850 mils.

What is the SPH-2's range?

Up to 2,629 m. The low arc covers roughly 1,181–2,629 m; the high arc reaches from roughly 735 m out to the same maximum with steeper trajectories.

What are mils?

Milliradians — the elevation unit on WARDOGS artillery sights. More mils = steeper barrel = shorter shot. The calculator converts distance to mils using in-game firing tables.

Can my squad see my firing solution?

Yes — in a shared map session your gun/target pair and solution show live for the whole squad in your color, and a Private toggle hides them whenever you want.

Is the calculator free?

Yes. The calculator, interactive maps, drawing tools and shared sessions are all free in the browser — no download, no account.
